Björn Rosengren (manager)

Björn Rosengren (born 1959) is a Swedish manager. He has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABB Group since March 2020.[1]

Rosengren grew up in Sweden and graduated with a master's degree from Chalmers Göteborg University of Technology. His professional career took place almost entirely in Sweden. From 1998 to 2011, he worked for Atlas Copco in various management positions. Then as CEO until 2015 of Wärtsilä. For the last six years before joining ABB Group, he was CEO of Sandvik Group.[2] His management style is considered unpretentious. He delegates tasks and competencies far down the hierarchy, thus ensuring a great deal of freedom. Among other things, this approach enabled him to bring about a successful reorganization of the Sandvik Group, which was reflected in a significant increase in the company's value and share price.[3] He is regarded as a quick decision-maker - qualities that were apparently desired for the position of ABB's new CEO.

Career

As ABB's new CEO, Rosengren is implementing the strategy of decentralized organization. The hierarchical structure of the ABB Group has been reduced and responsibility delegated to the 18 business units (divisions). The headquarters in Zurich has been slimmed down. Within the group, the chief digital officer was eliminated without replacement in order to let the business units operate independently.[2] Even the digital platform ABB Ability is no longer to be developed by the group, but by the business units.
