Bodo Rudwaleit

Bodo Rudwaleit (born 3 August 1957) is a German former football goalkeeper who was the goalkeeper of the record champion BFC Dynamo.

Career

Rudwaleit joined the youth academy of BFC Dynamo in 1969 and made his professional debut for BFC Dynamo in the 1977-78 season. Rodwaleit played during most of his career for BFC Dynamo, where he was East German champion ten times in a row from 1979 to 1988. He amassed 344 matches in the East German top-flight and is the second most capped player of BFC Dynamo after Frank Terletzki.[1]

Rudwaleit was part of the East German national football team for nearly a decade.[2] He was the first-choice goalkeeper of the national football team, until René Müller became the undisputed number one in the middle of the 1980s.

He was part of the East German Olympic team that won the silver medal in the 1980 Summer Olympics. He played five matches out of six in the tournament, including the final. Together with his teammates, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze the same year. Rudwaleit made 33 appearances for the East German national football team until 1988.

After retiring as a football player, Rudwaleit worked as a youth coach at FV Erkner 1920 and then as a goalkeeping coach at BFC Dynamo from 2003. He retired from all posts at BFC Dynamo in 2006, but was again goalkeeping coach at BFC Dynamo from 2008 to 2009.

Rudwaleit was also known for being unusually tall for a football player in these days with an height of 2.02 meters.
