Bogdan Volkov
Bogdan Volkov is a Russian operatic tenor born in Ukraine. He is the winner of second prize at Plácido Domingo's Operalia, The World Opera Competition in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2016[1] and first prize at the Paris Opera Competition in 2015.
Bogdan Volkov studied singing at the R. Glier Kiev Institute of Music. In 2013 he completed his vocal studies graduating at Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine. In 2013-15 was a member of the Young Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. During this period Bogdan made his role debuts as Simpleton in «Boris Godunov» by M. Mussorgsky, as Mozart in «Mozart and Salieri» by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, as Kai in «The story of Kai and Gerda» by S. Banevich and as Vladimir Igorevich in «Prince Igor» by A. Borodin and others...
In February 2014 he debuted in the new production of «The Tsar's Bride» by N. Rimsky-Korsakov as Lykov, conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky. With this role he took part in the Bolshoi Theatre tours to Vienna, Hong Kong Arts Festival and Lincoln Centre Festival.
In October 2015 Bogdan debuted as Lensky in «Eugene Onegin» by P. Tchaikovsky, working with director Dmitry Tchernyakov in his production at the Bolshoi and conductor Alexander Vedernikov.
In 2016-2018 was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre.
In 2017 he took part in the new production of M. Weinberg's «The Idiot», singing the title role of Prince Myshkin at the Bolshoi theatre, where he was the first performer of this role. In July 2017 he sang Lensky at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Savonlinna Opera Festival. In 2019 Bogdan Volkov took part in two new productions of Dmitri Tcherniakov at State opera of Berlin in «Betrothal in a Monastery” by S. Prokofiev as Don Antonio, conducted by Daniel Barenboim and at Theatre Royal de la Monnaie de Munt in “Tale of Tsar Saltan” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov as Guidon, conducted by Alain Altinoglu.
In August 2020, he sings Ferrando in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival.
