Brad Rowswell

Brad Rowswell is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2018, representing the seat of Sandringham, winning election by just over 500 votes. He is currently the Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition and Secretary to the Shadow Cabinet.[1]

Early life

Rowswell was born at the Sandringham Hospital and grew up in the suburb of Beaumaris.[2] He was educated at St Bede's College in Mentone.

Career

Rowswell worked in business and as a political advisor before his election to State Parliament.[3] He was selected as the Liberal nominee over former councillor Felicity Frederico,[4] and won election to State Parliament over Labor Party candidate Anita Horvath by slightly over 500 votes, winning 50.6% to 49.4%.[3]

While Rowswell was campaigning for office in 2017, a fundraiser for him and the Sandringham Liberal Party included as guest speaker Margaret Court, a former tennis player who was one of the leading voices against same-sex marriage and has a history of making homophobic statements.[5][6]

Rowswell spoke against Daniel Andrews being depicted as a Nazi after a poster of Andrews with a moustache similar to Adolf Hitler was discovered in Highett, which is part of Rowswell's Sandringham electorate.[7]
