Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy (born December 27, 1999) is an American football quarterback for the Iowa State Cyclones.

Early years

Purdy is a native of Gilbert, Arizona playing high school football for Perry High School. He is the middle child of Shawn and Carrie Purdy. His older sister, Whitney Purdy, would play softball at Southeastern University and younger brother Chubba Purdy would also become the starting quarterback at Perry.[2] Chubba Purdy has committed to Florida State to play as a dual threat quarterback.[3]

High school career

Purdy started his varsity football career during the 2015 season as a sophomore for the newly opened Perry High School. During his tenure, Perry began to establish itself as a football power in Arizona competing with Chandler, Hamilton, and Basha as the other Chandler Unified School District's perennial powerhouse programs. He would ultimately have a record of 0-5 against Chandler, 4-2 against Hamilton, and 2-1 against Basha.

In 2016, the Arizona Interscholastic Association adjusted the regions in their 6A Division placing Perry in the Premier Region ranked as the 6th toughest region in the nation placing Purdy against the best defenses in the state.[5] Purdy's performance would elevate Perry to the 6A Division Championship game twice. The 2016 Championship resulted in a 65-28 loss to Chandler and in 2017 also loosing against Chandler 49-42. Overall, Perry has amass a 27-13 overall record at Perry.

His 2017 season resulted in the Arizona Cardinal Player of the Year and Ed Doherty Award Most Outstanding High School Football Player in the State of Arizona Award accolades.[6] National awards include Gatorade's Football Player of the Year for Arizona and Ed Doherty Award Most Outstanding High School Football Player in Arizona.[6][7] The Arizona Republic would also award him the High School Football Player of the Year award.[8]

As a prospect, Purdy was considered a 3 star pro-style quarterback ranking 36th nationally and 12th overall prospect in Arizona.[10] Several colleges attempted to recruit Purdy to play for their respective teams by offering scholarships from Texas A&M, Alabama, UCF, Illinois, Boise State, Kansas, Southern Utah, Montana State, UNLV, New Mexico State, UC Devis, and NAU.[11] He would ultimately commit to Iowa State signing his letter of intent on February 7, 2018[12] and enrolling in the school on June 11, 2018.[13][14]

College career

Purdy entered his true freshman year at Iowa State in 2018 as the third string to Kyle Kempt and Zeb Noland. He became the starter after Kempt was injured and Noland was ineffective.[15][16] Overall he started eight games, completing 146 of 220 passes for 2,250 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.[17][18] He also rushed for 308 yards and five touchdowns. He returned as the starter in 2019.[19]
