History
The station was launched in 1955 by Rideau Broadcasting, at 1070 AM, and played a country format. It began broadcasting in a daytime-only capacity On October 22, 1955.[2] In 1958, the station's frequency changed to 630 AM.
In 1969, CJET-FM was also launched as a stereo simulcast of the AM signal. That station now uses the callsign CKBY.
In 1984, the AM and FM stations were sold to Harvey Glatt's CHEZ-FM Inc., which was subsequently acquired by Rogers Communications, the stations' current owner, in 1999. Rogers converted CJET to FM the following year at 92.3 MHz as Country 92,[3] [4] and the station adopted an adult hits format with the "Jack FM" branding in 2004. In September 2015, the station changed its format to variety hits but kept the "Jack FM" branding. The station's format featured hits from the late 1960s through today.
Return of Country music on 92.3
On December 3, 2020, Rogers reorganized the content of its Ottawa stations with 1310 News becoming CityNews, simulcast on both CIWW and CKBY-FM, while CKBY's former country format was transferred to CJET-FM, and was rebranded Country 92.3.[5] [6] The current Country 92.3 is a similar branding to Country 92, which was used for the previous country format on 92.3 FM from 2001 until the switch to adult hits as Jack FM in 2004.
According to the Canadian Radio News Facebook group, CJET-FM moved from 92.3 to 101.1 and CKBY-FM moved from 101.1 to 92.3. [7]
