Carla O'Brien (journalist)

Carla O'Brien (born 1983) is an Irish multimedia journalist, former principal dancer and presenter with Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland's national radio and television station, where she has been a relief presenter for the One O'Clock News and Six One News. She previously presented RTÉ's news2day from 2012 to 2014 and Newsfeed from 2014 to 2017.[1][2][3][4]

Career

O'Brien began her career in September 2005 as a principal dancer for Riverdance and became the senior ladies' world champion.[5][6] After spending two years dancing, she worked as a financial analyst with Deloitte from August 2008 to December 2009.[7][8] O'Brien joined Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) in May 2011, and worked as a researcher on RTÉ's News at One.[9][8] She presented RTÉ's news2day from 2011 to 2014,[10][11][12] before presenting Newsfeed from September 2014 to 2017.[9][13][14]

Personal life

O'Brien grew up on a farm in Caledon, County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, and has two sisters and one brother.[15] In 1994, she attended St. Catherine's College in Armagh for secondary school.[8] After secondary school, O'Brien attended Queen's University Belfast and NUI Galway where she received a Master of Science degree in management information systems and services and a Master of Arts degree in journalism with first class honours.[8][16][9][14]

In September 2013, O'Brien married Ronan Glynn, now Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Ireland. They have two children.[17][18][19] They currently live in Blackrock, Dublin.[7][5][14]
