Chandana Jayaratne

Professor Chandana Jayaratne (also known as K P S Chandana Jayaratne) is the Head of Department of Physics of University of Colombo Sri Lanka.[1]

Early life and Education

Chandana Jayaratne was born to Anula Jayaratne and K.S. Jayaratne of Dompe.[2] After being educated at Nalanda College, Colombo graduated with a BSc from University of Colombo and later from Uppsala University Sweden for Atmospheric Physics. In 2008 Jayaratne was awarded the Nalanda Keerthi Sri award by Nalanda College.[3][4]

Career

Jayaratne was the President of Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) in 2018.[5] SLAAS has sister organizations in other countries such as American Association for the Advancement of Science, in USA.[6]

Jayaratne [7] is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies.[8][9]

He is also the Director of Astronomy and Space Science Unit.[10][11]

Whilst being a member of the Committee to Investigate Safety Against Lightning Hazards formulated under the directive of Parliament Jayaratne has been involved in the process of preparing standards for Lightning Protection Systems for the Sri Lanka Standards Institute.[12]

Chandana Jayaratne is one of the National Coordinators of Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad appointed by the Institute of Physics Sri Lanka (IPSL).[13][14][15]
