History

Coppice was designated as a Performing Arts school in September 2003. This has extended the range of opportunities for all students, and enhanced partnerships with local schools and community groups.

The school has the Artsmark Gold award and Investors in People standard. Coppice is also involved in the successful Sport in the Community programme, with a coordinator placed in school 2 days a week.

The most recent OFSTED inspection rated the school as requires improvement (Jan 2014) grade 3.

The school's sixth form works in collaboration with Wednesfield High School, a number of subjects being shared across the two schools.

Covid-19

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Coppice Performing Arts School have followed the guidance outlined by the Government. In the first lockdown, which occurred on 16 March,[3] they used Google Classroom in order to ensure that students were still receiving education through means of setting assignments.

On September 2, after months of being locked inside, Coppice Performing Arts School would re-open, introducing new measures that would reduce risk of transmission, such as a One-Way system inside hallways, mandatory wearing of masks while travelling across school (inside lessons, it was permitted to take masks off), wide availability of hand sanitiser and wipes (stationed in every classroom). Fortunately, these measures payed off, and the school only saw the need to dismiss one or two year groups due to potential transmission of the coronavirus.

School under the aforementioned measures would continue all the way up to the Christmas holiday, in which everyone would depart. On the minds of many was the question as to their returning. Thankfully, Coppice had began experimenting with online lessons weeks prior, and when the second lockdown hit, they were able to increase quality of learning from home thanks to Google Meet.
