Dačice

Dačice (Czech pronunciation: [ˈdatʃɪtsɛ]; German: Datschitz) is a town in Jindřichův Hradec District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 7,300 inhabitants. Despite administratively being a part of the South Bohemian Region, the town lies in the historical land of Moravia.

It is notable as the home of the sugar cube, which was invented here in 1843 by Jakob Christof Rad.

History

Until 1918, Datschitz – Dačice (Datschitz in 1850) was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), in the district with the same name, one of the 34 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Moravia.[2]
