Release and promotion

On 15 March 2020, S-X tweeted, "my next song is called "dangerous"".[1] The song's cover art and release date were revealed on 5 September 2020, and the song was made available for pre-order.[2][3] "Dangerous" was released for digital download and streaming two weeks later on 18 September 2020 through record label Eterno Music, under Universal Music Group.[4] The song is S-X's first release through the record label after signing with them in May 2020.[5]

S-X performed "Dangerous" live during the Sky One television show Soccer AM the day after the song's release, on 19 September 2020.[6][7] S-X appeared as a guest on the CBBC television show The Playlist on 18 September 2020 to promote the song.[8]

Critical reception

GRM Daily said, "S-X showcases his faultless vocals over a melodic and instantaneous beat and it's safe to say that his first release in over 8 months is a certified hit".[9] Sam Rasmin of Creative Generation UK said, "S-X has delivered yet another incredible vocal performance which matched with a gripping instrumental makes for an exciting new release".[10] Rock 'N' Load said, "S-X is leading us out of summer with an undeniable track, which is set to be a hit".[11] 1883 Magazine said, "S-X has more than proven himself as a confident and powerful artist with "Dangerous"".[12]

Music video

The song's music video premiered on S-X's YouTube channel on 18 September 2020. It has received over 3 million views.[13] The video has a running time of 3 minutes and 20 seconds.[13] The video is co-directed by Troy Roscoe and Danyl Goodall. 1883 Magazine said, "in the music video for "Dangerous", S-X finds himself in a multi-dimensional world of haunted mansions with a witchy-like cult, a dinner gathering full of deranged guests, and a spider that looks eerily familiar to S-X. With a Stranger Things-esque theme throughout the music video, it’s clear that the inspiration behind "Dangerous" is the danger that comes when you entangle love with deceit".[12] The video features a cameo appearance from S-X's frequent collaborator, British YouTuber and rapper KSI. A behind-the-scenes video of the filming of the music video was uploaded to S-X's YouTube channel on 29 September 2020.[14]
