Datt

Datt (also spelled Dutt or Dutta) is a martial Mohyal clan from the Punjab. They ruled parts of the Jammu region of India, including the Bahu part of Jammu City, in the 900s (10th century AD). They are Brahmins, mostly Saraswat, and belong to the Mohyal Brahmin group of Saraswat Brahmins. The Dutts either originated in Iraq or spent a few centuries there before migrating/ returning to India. Because of the martyrdom of almost all the men of their clan on behalf of Imam Hussain (RA) in the battle of Karbala, they are known as Hussaini Brahmins,[1]
