Diego Gutiérrez Zuñiga

Diego Nicolas Gutiérrez Zuñiga (Born February 18, 1997) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for Valour FC in the Canadian Premier League.

Club career

Palestino

On November 6, 2015 Gutiérrez made his league debut for Palestino against Deportes Antofagasta.[1]

In the 2015–16 season, Gutiérrez made five league appearances as well as two appearances in the Copa Chile.[2]

In the 2017 and 2018 seasons Gutiérrez saw less playing time, making only one league appearance each season, three appearances in the Copa Sudamerica and two appearances in the 2017 Copa Chile.[2]

Valour FC

Gutiérrez signed a multi-year deal for Canadian Premier League club Valour FC on March 4, 2019.[3]

International career

Gutiérrez is eligible to represent both Canada and Chile internationally.[4]

Chile

Gutiérrez was called up to the Chilean under-20 team in June 2016 for a pair of friendlies against Paraguay.[5] He did not play in either match.

Canada

Gutiérrez was called up to the Canadian Under-20 side for a camp in January 2017.[6] He made his debut against Panama in a friendly on January 20.[7] He subsequently made the roster for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship,[8] where he started in a 5-0 loss to Mexico and a 2-0 win over Antigua and Barbuda.[4]

Personal life

Gutiérrez was born to Chilean parents in Greenfield Park, Quebec and moved to Santiago, Chile when he was three years old.[4] His twin brother Cristián is also a footballer.
