Dixon Reservoir (Escondido)


Dixon Reservoir also known as Dixon Lake is a reservoir located in the north of Escondido, California.[1] It has been regularly noted to produce the largest kind of Largemouth bass in the world.[2]

Dixon Lake is considered a popular place for picnics, camping, and fishing.[3] The lake was granted an Aquaculture Permit by the State of California Department of Fish and Wildlife; fishing licenses are no longer required.[4] However, all anglers eight years and older need a daily lake fishing permit, available at the concession stand. The city stocks different types of fish throughout the year, including Bass, Bluegill, Carp, Catfish, Crappie, and Trout, Each year, the Trout Derby event is hosted at Dixon Lake.[5] It is near to Daley Ranch, and is a marina/launch.[6]

History

At the peak of recreation fishing in San Diego, Dixon Lake was constructed with the plan of creating a good fishery and recreational facility. [7]

Fishing

With the intent of being made for Recreational fishing, the lake is reportedly home to the largest species of Largemouth bass. As of September 2020, fishing docks are open to the public, at pre-marked spots.[8]

Camping

Camping has also been a popular recreational activity at Dixon Lake.
