ECAT Pakistan
Engineering College Admission Test (ECAT) is a test conducted in the Punjab, Pakistan each year for admission in BE/BS/BSc Engineering degree. ECAT is conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. It was started in 1998 on the initiative of then Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter cheating in the examinations at that time. Each year some 45000 students attempt this test while there are some 3000 seats in public sector engineering institutions of the Punjab.
ECAT is a pre-requisite for admission in the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and its affiliated institutions and all other public sector engineering institutions in the Punjab. Some private institutions also require ECAT as a pre-requisite.
ECAT is taken as multiple choice questions (MCQ). Each MCQ has 4 marks while there is a negative marking of -1 mark for wrong answer.
