Builder details

The 9 locos for Brazil were exported in July, 1953. They were numbered from 521 to 529 by the Victoria a Minas Railway.[3][4] These locos were later sold to the Viação Férrea do Rio Grande do Sul.[5]

The 40 locos for East Pakistan were exported in three phases:

  • August–October, 1953: 2000–2009
  • July–September, 1954: 2010–2024
  • March–April, 1956: 2025–2039

They were given the class/series #2000 by the Eastern Bengal Railway and numbered from 2000 to 2039. The present class-name is MEG-11. They were the very first diesel loco to ever come in the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. As of 2020 (after almost 70 years), six locos are still running in the service of Bangladesh Railway.

Technical details

EMD B12 locos have the EMD 567 prime mover. The AAR wheel arrangement is A1A-A1A for East Pakistan and B-B for Brazil. These locos have a power of 1,125 hp (839 kW).
