History
eToonz launched simultaneously with OpenView,[2] as eToonz+ along with eKasi+ (now eExtra), eAfrica+(now defunct ) and eMovies+(now eMovies).[3] These channels were launched in anticipation of South Africa's digital migration process, which was delayed by many factors such as the debate of whether the DTT decoders should have Conditional Access or not. The channel plays cartoons that have once aired or are currently airing on e.tv.
Starsat was reportedly in negotiation with eMedia Investments for their set of channels later that year and eToonz wasn't part of the deal.[4][5]
In May 2017, The channel was made available on DStv[6]
In November 2017, e.tv gave eMovies+ and eToonz+ a new look to fit in with their other channels red look and dumped the '+' sign from both these channels proclaiming them as eToonz and eMovies from that point onward.[7]
eToonz remains as the longest running kids channel on the eMedia set of channels alongside eMovies.
Programmes
Even though the channel doesn't carry much original local content the lineup consists of animation from various studios including Hit Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation and Walt Disney Animation.
