Eric Enge

Eric Enge is a search engine optimization (SEO) consultant, businessman, author,[1] and public speaker.[2] He is the founder of Stone Temple Consulting.[3]

Early career

Enge graduated from Northeastern University.[4] In 1987, Enge was the head of engineering at Phoenix Technologies, where he led a team that had previously cloned IBM's BIOS[5] and oversaw the campaign to expand applications of Phoenix's BIOS.[6][7]

In the 1990s he helped AOL build up its subscriber base.[8]

Stone Temple Consulting

In 1997, Enge founded Stone Temple Consulting, a digital marketing consulting service group based in Framingham, Massachusetts.[9] During his time at Stone Temple, Enge started up and ran three publishing companies: FutureMeld, LLC,[10] Moving Traffic Inc.,[11] and Optimized Internet Corp. Those three companies have since been sold.[12]

Enge has spoken at conferences including Pubcon,[2] Search Marketing Expo,[13] the American Marketing Association,[14] SEMPO,[15] Internet Retailer,[16] O'Reilly,[17] Web 2.0,[18] State of Search,[19] MN Search,[20] Growth Hacking Breakfast,[21] Ungagged,[22] and HostingCon.[23] Enge has delivered keynotes at Pubcon,[24] Rocks Digital Conference,[25] and SEO Meetup Conference,[26] and has conducted a series of online Virtual keynote interviews with Google search engineers.[27][8]

In July 2018, Stone Temple was acquired by digital IT consulting firm Perficient.[28][29] Enge is now General Manager for Digital Marketing at Perficient.[8]

Awards

Enge was named "Search Personality of the Year 2016" and Stone Temple Consulting was awarded "Best Large SEO Agency of the Year 2016" at the US Search Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada,[30][31] and Enge was named "Search Marketer of the Year 2016 (Male)" at Search Engine Land's Landy Awards in New York City.[31][32][33]

Writing

Books

In 2009, Enge co-authored The Art of SEO (Theory in Practice) with Stephan Spencer, Rand Fishkin, and Jessie Stricchiola.[8] The book was published by O'Reilly Media.[1] The Art of SEO was named Search Engine Land's best SEO book for 2009.[34] It is used a textbook for many university courses.[8] The third edition of The Art of SEO was published in August 2015.[35]

Blogging

Enge contributes to a number of SEO-related websites including columns on Search Engine Land,[36] Marketing Land,[37] and Moz (formerly SEOmoz).[38] He also is a contributor to Forbes,[39] Convince and Convert,[40] Social Media Today,[41] and Copyblogger.[42]

His studies of digital marketing topics and trends[43] have been cited by major publications such as The Washington Post,[44] Fast Company,[45] The Wall Street Journal,[46] and The Motley Fool.[47]
