European School of Economics

The European School of Economics (ESE) is a private College of Higher Education, accredited by ASIC,[1] validated by the University of Chichester, and in the order of listed bodies. ESE offers UK Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree, MBA, and specialized Short Programmes at its centres in London, Rome, Milan, Florence, and Madrid.[2]

Specifically, ESE students can earn a BSc (Honours) in Marketing, Finance, Management, or Media and Communications,[3] an MSc in Finance, Management or Marketing, or an MBA in Business Administration.

History

The European School of Economics was founded in Italy in 1994. On 12 December 2013 the European School of Economics UK Ltd. (ESE Foundation) became a charity.[4]

On 9 September 2018 ESE was awarded "Best Private Business School, United Kingdom 2018" at the Global Brand Awards 2018 by Global Brands Magazine.[5]

Current operational status

Each country has its own local management and the ESE campuses are presently managed by the following companies: ESE Italy, ESE Spain, ESE Insight Ltd, and ESE New York Inc.

Campuses

United Kingdom

The European School of Economics (ESE) is a European accredited educational institution. In April 2014, the British Accreditation Council recognized that ESE was listed along with several other institutions which lead to degrees awarded by recognised bodies[6] On November 2014, a report by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education showed that the existing partnership agreement with the Buckingham University was to be terminated for strategic reasons.[7][8]

Students may also take non-degree short programmes in the specialized areas of Marketing, Management, Finance, HR and Entrepreneurship as well as Event Management, International Management, Art Management & Consultancy.[9]

In 2016, the European School of Economics was recognized as a listed body (one which teaches degrees awarded by a UK university) by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.[10][11]

Spain

In 2010, the Madrid Campus of the European School of Economics in Spain was authorized by the Ministry of Education and the Comunidad de Madrid to teach university-level programmes leading to the award of a British degree in Spain.[12] but this authorization was revoked in 2015.[13] This authorization allowed ESE students, who successfully complete the degree programme, to apply for recognition of the British degree as an equivalent to the corresponding Spanish level of studies. After the ESE lost the agreement with Buckingham University in November 2014, the Comunidad de Madrid revoked the authorization.

Italy

In Italy, the European School of Economics is one of the few business schools recognised by the British government[14] with its three campuses: Milan, Rome and Florence.

The Italian campuses are officially associated with Eduitalia,[15] an Association of Schools and Universities offering courses to foreign students in Italy.

The Milan Campus, while providing all the courses available on the other campuses, has developed its specific focus on the fashion and luxury field. In May 2020 it opened a new Fashion and Luxury Culture Department.

The Rome Campus is located on the Aventine Hill.

The Florence Campus is on the Palazzo Rosselli del Turco.

The school in Italy was involved in multiple scandals, which including the bankruptcy of its subsidiary A.C. Viareggio, a football club.[16] Italian Guardia di Finanza and prosecutor had investigated the school for alleged tax evasion using subsidiaries, as well as the false advertisement of their graduation certificate. However, the school was acquitted of the charge.[17]
