Fateh Pur

Fateh Pur (/fʌˈteɪ.pʊər/; Urdu: فتح پُور‎; Urdu pronunciation: [fʌ:θeɪ.pʊ:r]) is a city in the Layyah district of Punjab, Pakistan. It was established in the 1980s[1] and acquired sub-tehsil status on January 7, 2007 in the Karor Lal Eason Tehsil. Fateh Pur is the third largest city in the Layyah district.[1]

Demographics

Fateh Pur is a Punjabi-speaking area, with the majority of the population speaking Punjabi as most of the population consists of migrants from East Punjab after the emergence of Pakistan in 1947. Some people also speak Urdu and Siraiki. The medium of education is Urdu and English.

According to a survey made by a local student-based NGO (Fateh Pur Science Council) in 2007, the literacy rate in urban and rural areas of Fateh Pur is approximately 79 percent and 53 percent respectively.

Administration

Administratively, Fateh Pur is divided into eleven blocks and two union councils (Urban and Rural), now it had been changed the status from union council to Municipal Committee. Each Union Council is administrated by Chairman, a Deputy Chairman, 11 general councilors and four special councilors each reserved (Farmer, youth, Lady and Minority).

Education

Fateh Pur has nine government schools and colleges. A 2009 survey reported that approximately 16,000 students attended these schools and colleges.

Health

The city has one government hospital (THQ) and many private hospitals. The third-largest trauma center in Pakistan was completed in 2008 but it was then converted into a basic health center.

Economy

The economy of the area depends upon government jobs and other private jobs and agriculture-related businesses. Many new businesses are being introduced in Fateh Pur.

Fateh Pur is one of the main cities in the region. It is famous because new businesses are growing day by day. Agriculture is one of the major businesses in this city, like fertilizer dealers and pesticide dealers. Fateh Pur also has the largest number of scrap shops in the district.

Major crops

Common crops grown in the areas surrounding Fateh Pur include cotton, sugarcane, wheat and rice. Gardening and fruit production (dates, mangoes, watermelons, melons, and citrus fruit) is also important. Veterinary development is a common feature of the area. Various animals, including buffaloes, cows, goats, sheep, camels and poultry, are used for milk and meat production.[2]

Fateh Pur has the largest grain market in Layyah District.
