Ferenc Miszlivetz

Ferenc Miszlivetz[1] (born June 10, 1954) is the founder and Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK), a Jean Monnet professor and full professor at the University of Pannonia. He is a scientific advisor at the Centre for Social Sciences, Institute for Political Sciences of the Loránd Eötvös Research Network.[2] He elaborated the ‘Creative Cities and Sustainable Regions’ project embedded in the KRAFT Centre at iASK. His research interests include democracy, civil society, Central-European and European Studies, globalization and sustainability. He has taught and conducted research at various universities in Europe and the United States. Since 2012 he has served as the chairman of the Social Sciences unit of the Hungarian UNESCO Committee and holds a UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage and Sustainability in Kőszeg.

1982     Joined the Institute of Sociology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest

1983-84         Fellow at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Sussex , Brighton, U.K.

1989              Conducted research at the University of California (Berkeley) and Harvard University as a Fellow of the MacArthur Foundation. Founding member of the Free Initiatives Network (TDDSZ), of the East-West Dialogue Circle, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Danube Foundation.

1990              One of the founders and director of research of the European Research Center.

Chaired the Department Sociology of the Dániel Berzsenyi Teacher Training College in Szombathely. While there, he became a senior researcher at the Sociological Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and served as the spokesman for the Democratic Charter.

1991-95        Initiated the foundation of Savaria University Press Publishing House in 1993, and of the Europe House in the city of Kőszeg.

1997             Participated in the development of the first Hungarian interdisciplinary university studies in European Studies,

1998             Founded the European Doctoral Center, and the Center for European Studies

1990-1993    Visiting expert of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe on human rights and minority issues.

1996              Initiated and ran the annual Savaria International Summer University in Kőszeg.
