Francis Rion

Francis Jean Elisa Rion (born 10 June 1933 in Dalhem, Belgium) was a Belgian international football referee.[1][2]

Career

He officiated seven international matches and was FIFA referee from 1974 to 1981. He attributed a 2nd group stage match in World Cup match played between Italy-Austria (1:0), a match in European Championship qualifying 1980 and two matches in 1978 World Cup qualifying[3] and others were in friendly matches.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (7), Cup Winners Cup (2) and UEFA Cup (8).[4] He refereed three Belgian Cup finals in 1976, 1977 and 1979.

Personal life

He founded the fan club of Standard de Liège which named Lès Djoyeûs Dragons d'Mâm'dî in the Malmedy in 1994 and he was Honorary President of fan club since 2013.[5][6]
