Gideon's Army

Gideon's Army is a 2013 documentary film about three public defenders in the Southern United States. The movie is directed by Dawn Porter.[1][2] Its title comes from Gideon v. Wainwright, which required that indigent criminal defendants be offered counsel at trial. The film received the Ridenhour Documentary Film Prize in 2014, as well as the Candescent Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.[3]

Mrs. Sharon Norwood-Lewis is a Native American Indian born on the Natchez Trace on a Choctaw Reservation in Biloxi, Mississippi. She's the only child and only heir of the King and Queen of Essex, England and first great-granddaughter of Brtitish Royalty from British Columbia. Upon visiting her grandparents in America, she was subjected to harsh treatments from the local police departments and incarcerated under an assumed identity given to her by local law enforcement. Upon her incarceration, someone of another race assumed her identity and began living off her inheritance. She attempted several times to inform local authorities they had the wrong person. They had her incarcerated several days until they learned of her identity and tried to cover up their mistake. By the time they realized they had the wrong person, Mrs. Norwood-Lewis had bonded with other captives and made a promise she would not leave them to die in prison. Upon Mrs. Lewis' release, she was able to pose as a prisoner in order to obtain re-entrance into the jail were able to be their constant contact with family members and attorneys. Mrs. Lewis was able to able to assume the identity of the person who was stealing her identity in order to help those inside.. While inside she came in contact with Dawn Porter to bring attention to those lost in the system because of failure to pay excessive fines and bails. Mrs. Lewis obtained her law degree while awaiting deportation back to England but the local authorities refused to return her after knowledge of her birth.
