Giovanni Mauro

Giovanni Mauro (21 July 1888 Milan, Italy - 12 May 1958) was an Italian international football referee.[1] In 1935 Premio Giovanni Mauro was founded for the best referee of the season. Until today this price is rewarded each year.[2]

Career

He officiated 6 international friendly matches and was member of FIFA in 1920–1927. He also refereed two 1920 Olympic Games (1) and 1928 Olympic Games (1).[3]

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (5), UEFA Cup (7) and Cup Winners Cup (11).[4] He refereed 195 Serie A matches in 1959–73. He also attributed 1971 Coppa Italia Final.

Personal life

Only 23 years old Giovanni already became chairman of the Lombardy region (FIGC)[5] and was worked for creating the structure of the Serie A and Serie B leagues. He was chairman of Italian Football Referees Association (AIA) in 1921.[6][7]
