Gracie Otto

Gracie Otto is the daughter of the Australian actor Barry Otto and Susan Hill. Actress Miranda Otto is her half-sister. She attended Burwood Girls High School in Sydney. As a schoolgirl, Otto represented Australia and New South Wales in indoor soccer, and represented her home state New South Wales in school softball.[6] She graduated from the Sydney Film School in 2007 and spent the following year living in Paris.

Otto's feature-length directing debut was with the 2014 documentary The Last Impresario, about prolific British theatre impresario and film producer Michael White. The film made its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2013, where it was positively received by critics; it features interviews with 60 of his close friends and associates.[6]

Otto has directed over five short films, all of which have screened at international film festivals. In 2019, after winning the North American Script Competition through Soho House in the US, Gracie directed and edited a new short film, Desert Dash, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Gracie is in demand as a director of TVC and online content including fashion films and commercials with Gigi Hadid for Maybelline NYC; a series of ads for iconic Australian underwear brand Bonds. Her fashion films star some of the biggest celebrities in the industry – Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Amanda Seyfried, Elizabeth Debicki, Emilia Clarke, and international models Miranda Kerr, Abbey Lee and Barbara Palvin.

In 2019, Otto was the director of the second series of the critically acclaimed Stan original, 'The Other Guy' starring Matt Okine, Claudia Karvan, and Harriet Dyer. The series follows a successful radio host 'AJ' who is dealing with a messy break-up as well as trying to get his life in order. It explores his life entering into a new relationship as well as his friend 'Stevie' (Harriet Dyer) who deals with her own life turmoils.

In early 2021, the Stan original series, 'Bump' was released starring Claudia Karvan, Natalie Morris, and Angus Sampson. Otto directed three of the ten episodes in the series that follows an unexpected teen pregnancy that complicates the lives of two families. The series centers around Oly, an ambitious and high-achieving teenage girl who has a surprise baby. The series has gained a huge following and has been abundantly acclaimed.

Gracie is currently in post-production on a new feature documentary, Under the Volcano, about legendary music producer George Martin’s 1980s recording studio, built in the shadow of a volcano in the Caribbean, where the world’s biggest recording artists made the music and myth that defined an era
