Gran Premio Asociación Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos

The Gran Premio Latinoamericano (former Gran Premio Asociación Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos, and currently known as the Longines Gran Premio Latinoamericano due to sponsorship reasons) is a horse-race for thoroughbreds of the countries which are members of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos. The race is contested by thoroughbred horses which are 3 years old or more (3yo+). It is South America’s most important weight-for-age race.[1] The race is usually held in a host track which is announced in advance, being responsible for the organization of that year's race. The distance varies between the 2,000 meters (1 14 mile, 10 furlongs) usually run and the 2,100 meters (1 516 mile, 10,5 furlongs) ran at the Argentine tracks of La Plata and Palermo, while being only once ran into 2,200 meters (1 38 mile, 11 furlongs) at Monterrico in 1987. Track surface and hand also are variable (with Chile's Club Hípico de Santiago being the only right-handed track to ever host the race).
