Héctor Aguilar Camín

Héctor Aguilar Camín (born July 9, 1946 in Chetumal) is a Mexican writer, journalist, historian and intellectual, director of (Revista Nexos) which has been critical of the government and was fined and banned for 2 years (2020-2022) from contracts with the Mexican Government for illicit financing.[1] This decision was reversed by the Tribunal Federal de Justicia Administrativa (TFJA). [2]

Aguilar Camín graduated from the Ibero-American University with a bachelor's degree in information sciences and techniques and received a doctorate's degree in history from El Colegio de México. In 1986 he received Mexico's Cultural Journalism National Award and three years later he received a scholarship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation while he was working as a researcher for the National Institute of Anthropology and History.

As a journalist, he has written for La Jornada (which he also co-edited), Unomásuno and currently for Milenio. He edited Nexos, one of the leading cultural magazines in the country, hosted Zona abierta, a weekly current-affairs show on national television.

He has worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) was editorial director Cal y Arena, has written articles for prestigious publications like La Jornada. In 1998 he received the Literature Award for his book Mazatlan: A breath in the river. The jury was then described as a one historian, bright.[3] He is remarried to Angeles Mastretta and has three sons.
