Background

The title of the album comes from Psalm 32:7 "You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with songs of deliverance."[4] Kelly, known for being a secular pop musician, stated on an Instagram live chat that she initially planned on making the followup to Unbreakable Smile a pop album with only one gospel song. She has stated before that she had no interest in being labeled a Christian artist even though some of her inspirations were Rachael Lampa and Crystal Lewis. She has stated that gospel had been an influence on her since childhood in an interview with Idolator: "I grew up on gospel music, I grew up singing it and a lot of what makes up gospel music is a huge influence in my own music. Growing up, I thought maybe one day I’ll do a gospel project." Kelly co-wrote half of the album's songs with gospel musician Kirk Franklin.[5]
