Hill Road
Hill Road (officially renamed as Ramdas Nayak Road[1]) is an arterial road in Bandra (West), Mumbai, India. It starts from the intersection of Bandra railway station road and Swami Vivekanand Road (SV Road) and goes west up to Mehboob Studio, leading to the Bandstand Promenade, the Bandra Fort, and Mount Mary Church, Bandra. Hill Road is a popular shopping street and houses a number of old and new brands.
The roads located in terrain having cross slope of 25% or more is considered as a hill road. Right from its intersection with SV Road, one comes across Lucky restaurant, and thereafter a series of general stores selling items and services ranging from paint, plumbers, wood and carpenters to clothes, ATM's, restaurants and telephone services.
For the first 200 meters you will pass small restaurants, hardware stores etc. to the Parsi agiary. Opposite there are some restaurants and Happy Book Store, one that has been in the same place for nearly 40 years. Further down is a shopping center/multiplex built on the spot where New Talkies (an old cinema) was located and opposite Casbah (an old landmark that was there until the late 90s and now is a Trios shop)
Further west, past the Bandra police station, the road takes on its shopping avatar. The Marks & Spencer mall, Benzer stores, Elco Arcade, Shannon stores, Abro, Cheap Jack etc. lie on this stretch. Eating joints such as Balaji restaurant, Mocha Mojo, J. Hearsh's bakery, Gazebo restaurant and A1 Bakery also line the road.
The 165-year-old St. Stanislaus High School,[2] and its adjoining St. Peter's church, St. Joseph's girls' school, the Apostolic Carmel convent school and St. Andrew's Church (Mumbai) all lie on Hill road. Two hospitals, Bhabha hospital and Holy Family Hospital also lie on Hill road. The Tata Parsi agiary built in 1873[3] is a prominent landmark on Hill road.[4][5]
