Description

The highrise hotel is on Avenida Juárez,[1] close to Alameda Central in Mexico City.[2] It was the first tall building to be constructed in the area since the 1985 Mexico City earthquake,[3] and is on the former site of the Hotel del Prado[4] (constructed 1948, demolished in 1985 due to structural damage from the earthquake).[5]

It was constructed in 2001–03, and opened in 2004.[6] The concrete building is 107 metres (351 ft) tall, with 24 storeys above ground and 2 below ground. It has 457 bedrooms and a total floor area of 69,226 square metres (745,140 sq ft),[1] with a building footprint of 66,000 square feet (6,100 m2). It has a helipad on the roof, as well as housing a 60,000 square feet (5,600 m2) convention centre with a capacity of 5,000 people.[3]

It was developed by Inmobiliaria Interpres with the main contractor Proarquitectura; Pascal Arquitectos was the architect, and Aguilar Ingenieros the structural engineer.[1] It was originally operated by the Sheraton chain, when it was known as the Sheraton Alameda and the Sheraton Centro Historico,[1] before becoming a Hilton hotel on 2 December 2009.[7] It had a special jury recognition by the Bienal de Interiorismo de Bellas Artes in September 2003, an IMEI award (smart building) in December 2003, and an award winner in the Tourism category of the Peremio Nacional de Interiorismo in July 2006.[4]

It was the venue for Wikimania 2015.[6] The hotel interior was renovated in 2018.[8]
