Hoërskool Oosterland

Hoërskool Oosterland is a High School situated in Secunda, Mpumalanga in South Africa. On 13 January 1988, it opened its doors to 355 pupils in grade 8 and 9, having 15 teachers.[1] The school was initially known as the "Tweede Afrikaanse Hoërskool" (Second Afrikaans High School), apparently also Afrikaans Medium. Name

The name "Oosterland" points historically to one of the ships with which the French Huguenots landed in 1688 (300 years prior to the opening of the school). Geographically, the name Oosterland (Easternland) has a link to the Eastern part of Secunda in which the school is situated, as well as to the location of Secunda in the former Eastern Transvaal (today Mpumalanga). The School is nicknamed "Oosies" by the pupils.
