Hong Yong-jo

Hong Yong-Jo (Korean: 홍영조; Hanja: 洪映早; born 22 May 1982[1]) is a North Korean international football striker, currently playing for 25 April FC in the DPR Korea League. He previously played for FC Rostov in Russia and FK Bežanija in the Serbian SuperLiga.[2]

In this Korean name, the family name is Hong.

He captained the North Korean team that qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Club career statistics

After playing many years with 4.25 Sports Team, he moved to Serbia in 2007 to play with FK Bežanija in the Serbian SuperLiga. In 2008, he signed with Russian FC Rostov where he will play three seasons, the two last in the Russian Premier League.

His convincing perfrmances both in Serbia and Russia made him to become the NK player with most professional career on hs CV of his generation domestically, thus it became no surprise his naming as the team captain of NK team for the 2010 World Cup. Despote being a NK player, he addapted extremelly well both in Serbian and Russian leagues. North Korea decided to send their best players to leagues of countries which had a well known reputation of making stance towards American globalist policies (Serbia which followed Yugoslav policy of Non-Alligment, and Russia, which followed the policy of USSR). Curiously, Hong Yong-jo didn´t took advantage of any of these political circunstances, but rather demonstrated his quality on the pitch.

International career stats

Hong Yong-Jo plays for the North Korean national team since 2002. He became one of the most important players, and was the team captain at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.[3]
