Overview

Hornsey School for Girls was the highest performing school in the borough of Haringey in 2017/2018 and remains consistently high performing. Since 2015 it has achieved the following awards:- London Mayors Gold Club, Healthy Schools, Mentoring and Befriending accreditation SSAT awards for being in the top 10 or 20% of all schools nationally -2016,2017,2018 and Stonewall accreditation amongst others.

As a high performing, academic and international school their motto is "Fortior Quo Paratior’ the Latin best translates to ‘The better prepared the stronger’ This was the original school motto when the school began in 1887 and was readopted in 2016 following consultation with students, staff and governors. The school is one of the oldest in the borough and has a genuine commitment to opening up and supporting students ambitions in traditionally ‘closed’ fields

As the only Girls School in the borough of Haringey, its admission policy is wide with a catchment that far exceeds neighbouring schools.

The school has in recent years seen a huge increase in its outcomes for all students, in 2017 it became oversubscribed for the first time in over a decade and it has currently agreed to take additional students in excess of its PAN. It counts English, History, Science, Maths, Geography and RE as some of its strongest performing subjects. It has been reaccredited as an International School until 2022.

The school has been led by Headteacher Kuljit Rahelu since April 2015. In 2018 & 2020 the school was lead by deputy headteacher Angela Rooke as Acting Headteacher when Ms Rahelu took maternity leave.

Previously a performing arts specialist school, in recent years the school has added and developed expertise in Enterprise and Stem. The school has had exceptional results since 2016 placing it firmly in the top performing schools in the borough. In 2018 it was the only Ofsted rated ‘good’ school that appeared in the top 3 of the performance tables for Haringey as the other spaces were occupied by the ‘outstanding’ schools.

The school has a strong awareness of the particular pressures facing girls growing up. As well as a strong focus on academic excellence, it has a wide-ranging pastoral proagramme that ensures student wellbeing and positive health aspects throughout.

Hornsey School for Girls has an varied extra curricular programme and a number of national and international trips take place over the course of the year.
