Hypoplectrus guttavarius

Hypoplectrus guttavarius, the shy hamlet, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a sea bass from the subfamily Serraninae which is part of the family Serranidae, which also includes the groupers and anthias. It is found in the western Atlantic Ocean and occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 13 centimetres (5.1 in) in length.[2] This species lives on reefs from the Bahamas to the Caribbean Sea where it feeds mainly on other fishes and crustaceans.[3] It was first formally described as Plectropoma guttavarium in 1852 by the Cuban zoologist Felipe Poey (1799-1891) with Havana given as the type locality.[4]
