IEEE Circuits and Systems Society

The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (IEEE CAS Society) is a society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It is also known by the acronym IEEE CASS. In the hierarchy of IEEE, the Circuits and Systems Society is one of almost 40 technical societies organized under the IEEE's Technical Activities Board.[1]

The CAS Society's Objective is: [2]

"The purposes of the Society are scientific, literary and educational in character, directed toward the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical, electronics, and allied branches of engineering or the related arts and science, in order to increase the professional standing of the Members and Affiliates. The Society shall aid in promoting close cooperation and exchange of technical information among its Members and Affiliates, and as means to these ends shall hold public meetings for the reading and discussion of periodical and special works of literature, science and art pertaining thereto, the initiation and development of engineering standards, and any other activities necessary, suitable and proper for the fulfillment of these objectives. Through its Committees the Society shall study and provide for the needs of its Members and Affiliates."

The CAS Society's Field of Interest is:[3]

"The theory, analysis, design, tools, and implementation of circuits and systems. The field spans their theoretical foundations, applications, and architectures, as well as circuits and systems implementation of algorithms for signal and information processing."

History

The first meeting of the IRE Professional Group on Circuit Theory was on March 20, 1951. After the IRE and the AIEE merged, the IRE Professional Group on Circuit Theory became the IEEE Professional Technical Group on Circuit Theory on March 25, 1963. In 1966, the group changed its name to the Group on Circuit Theory, and in 1973 became the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.[4]

Membership

IEEE Circuits and Systems Society membership includes access to the Society Newsletter (electronic), the IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine (electronic and print), the IEEE RFIC Virtual Journal (electronic), the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Digital Library, and the Conference Digital Library (electronic).

Activities

Awards and Scholarships

The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s annual awards program recognizes member achievements in education, industry, technological innovation, and service.[5] Winning an award from the CAS Society is considered a huge technical accomplishment, achieved only by the top professionals in the field of circuits and systems engineering.

Publications

The Circuits and Systems Society oversees the publication of five journals and two periodicals and co-sponsors the publication of seven additional publications.

Conferences

The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society organizes, sponsors, and co-sponsors many conferences every year. The Society has one global flagship conference, the IEEE Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), and five regional flagship conferences which include the Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS), the International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems (ICECS), the Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems (LASCAS), the International Midwest Conference on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), and the IEEE Interregional NEWCAS Conference (NEWCAS). Technical Committees

The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society currently offers 14 Technical Committees (TC's) which are open to any IEEE member. Membership is by recommendation and is approved by a majority vote of active TC members present at any of the Committee’s physical meetings, usually held annually at ISCAS (the Society's Flagship Conference).[7]
