History

Gerald D. Cohen, who passed away in 2020,[2] co-founded Information Builders (ibi) in 1975[3] with Peter Mittelman and Martin B. Slagowitz. Their initial product, FOCUS, was designed to enable people without formal computer programming skills to work with information systems.[4]

Information Builders (ibi) is one of the largest privately held software firms and operates in more than 60 locations.[5] In 2001, it established iWay Software, a wholly owned company that focuses on data integration and service-oriented architecture (SOA).[6]

In October 2020, TIBCO Software agreed to purchase ibi for an undisclosed sum, pending final regulatory approval expected in TIBCO`s first fiscal quarter 2021.[7]
