Irene Dushmani

Jerina (Irene) Dushmani was an Albanian princess, daughter of the Albanian Prince Lekë Dushmani. According to Marin Barleti, Albanian Princes: Prince Lekë Dukagjini and Prince Lekë Zaharia got engaged in a fight over her. She preferred Prince Zaharia, but this was not accepted by Prince Lekë Dukagjini, who killed Zaharia.[1] Jerina did not accept the proposed marriage after the death of Prince Lekë Zaharia, and lived a closed life as a nun on the island of Sardinia in Italy. She stated in her last will that her remains were to be taken to Danja near the tomb of Prince Lekë Zaharia.

However, Original Venetian documents contradict this story by showing that this murder happened in 1444.[2] According to Venetian chronicler Stefano Magno it was Nikollë Dukagjini, Zaharia's vassal, who killed Lekë Zaharia in the battle, not Lekë as stated by Marin Barleti.[3]
