Israel Israeli (Hebrew: ישראל ישראלי‎, romanized: Yisrael Yisraeli) is a placeholder name used in Israel in much the same manner as John Doe in the United States or Joe Bloggs in the United Kingdom.

The term "Ploni Almoni" (פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִי) finds common use in Israel as a stand-in name, similar to John Doe in the United States. The term is taken from the Hebrew text of the Book of Ruth. Specifically this phrase is found in Ruth 4:1, where it is used euphemistically to refer to a relative of Boaz.[1] (The actual name of Boaz's relative is not used because the individual in question had failed to carry out a religious duty.)[2][3]
