Literacy stands at 87.93 percent for men and 75.06 percent for women. 95.45 percent of total population describe their job as the main work, accounting 1739 females in the workforce.
Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) constitutes 2.16 percent and 0.05 percent of total population in the town.[1]

The three temples devoted to the goddess Sri Ramalinga Sowdeswari Amman, three temples to the goddess Mariamman, one to Lord Shiva owned by Malayampalayam Kannada Devanger.

Om Kaliamman Temple
Jalakandapuram is known for its temples. On the route to Salem, the Shri Om Kaliamman temple is located at Kattampatti, about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) from the town bus station. The well-known Kaliamman Festival happens in January every year when thousands of devotees come to celebrate at the temple.
