James Carl

James Carl (born 1960, in Montreal) is a Canadian artist known for his sculptural works.[2][3]

Life

James Carl was born in 1960 in Montreal.[4] He is a professor of studio art at the University of Guelph.[5]

Work

Carl's work often involves the use of materials recycled from the trash, such as cardboard[6] and discarded Venetian blinds.[7] His early works in cardboard were designed to be discarded after the exhibition.[8][9]

Public art

Carl's 1,400 pound public sculpture of a rubber band, titled Things End, is installed permanently outside of the Festival Tower in Toronto.[10]

Collections

Carl's work is included in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada.[11][4]
