Jasbir Singh (author)

Jasbir Singh (born 12 November 1996) is a contemporary Indian author and social activist. He is the former president of Youth Foundation, an NGO in Punjab, and founder of Vigilante_together for service, an NGO in Nepal. He is awarded with 100 Inspiring authors of India award by the Indian Awaz in 2018.[1] His third book which is based on the interviews of rape offenders has been acquired by the leading publishing house of India Invincible Publishers.[2]

Life

He was born in a village called Hakkal in Jammu and Kashmir, India. After completing his primary and secondary education from his hometown, he received his undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Business Administration from Lovely Professional University in 2018.[3] He discovered his talent in literature at a tender age of 12. The victories he gained from various competitions at his school and his teacher's appreciations inspired him to pick up writing, which later turned out to be his passion.[4]

Career

Singh has written two novels. His first novel, Forever a Promise, was published on 7 August 2017. This novel was inspired by true events in Nepal. His second novel, I Am Also a Human, was published on 6 March 2018.[5] This novel was inspired from various social issues.

  • Forever a Promise: The book features a love story between two financially unequal people, in an orthodox society. It is a tale of friendship, love, sacrifice and inspiration.[6]
  • I Am Also a Human: This novel features a Trans-gendered girl, striving to live a normal life in this society. This novel portrays the struggles she faced to prove that she is also a human.[7]
  • Why does a man rape: This book is based on the interviews of more than 100 rape offenders from all over India. This book talks about the root causes of a heinous crime and way out to reduce the number of cases.[8][9]

Reception

The Indian Saga said that, "Jasbir Singh is bringing social change through his words."[10] However, he was criticized for writing controversial content in his third book by some readers.
