Biography

Jassie Gift hails from Thiruvananthapuram.[1] He was interested in music from childhood and was highly influenced by western music. He had lessons in western piano from a young age and started singing and playing the keyboard for a few local bands. He is a singer and keyboard player of the band Moby Dick. He admired Ilayaraja and he is a great fan of Freddie Mercury. He entered the film music industry under the guidance of director Jayaraj. Before entering films he composed songs for a couple of music albums in Malayalam. The main hit album is Soona Soona. Before entering into movies he composed jingles. He pioneered the use of reggae fusion music in the Malayalam music industry with the backing roots of Indian ragas. His medley of western and Indian music came to be very popular among listeners which created a new genre of Malayalam film dance music. His remarkably different singing voice contributed to a unique vocal style. Jassie's first composition was for the movie Saphalam. He became popular in Kerala with his song "Lajjavathiye" in the movie 4 the people.[2] His music contributed heavily to the success of 4 the People, which became 2004's biggest blockbuster in Malayalam.[2] All the songs Jassie composed for the movie, especially "Lajjavathiye", became hits in Kerala and set a new trend in Malayalam music. It was later remade in Tamil, and also as Malliswarive in Telugu[4] The song was successful in all languages.[5]

He also composed a music album, Rain, Rain Come again, that is a mixture of Indian and western music.[5] He gives the mixture of melody and western beats in the Hudugaata (Kannada) film and three songs, "Eno Onthara", "Mandakiniye" and "Ommomme Heegu". He has worked with many South Indian musicians such as Harris Jayaraj, Devisri Prasad, Yuvan Shankar Raja, and M M Keeravani, Anirudh Ravichander, hip hop tamizha and collaborated with almost all music directors from south India. Songs sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonunigam in the movie Sanju Weds Githa paved a new way for his melody creation for Kannada movies.
