In 1997, he graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.[4] His brother is comedy writer Andy Blitz.

As a guest on the podcast, Office Ladies,[5] Jeffrey talks about directing The Office with a stutter[6] and his fear that it would get in the way. Hosts, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, mention that it did not interfere and actually led to feelings of closeness because of the amount of time he spent individually with cast members.
