History

A group of visionary community leaders, educators and parents in Southern Connecticut gathered in 2006 to explore the possibility of building the first pluralistic Jewish high school in Connecticut. By 2007, the Board of Trustees established the Jewish High School of Connecticut. JHSC opened its doors in the 2010–2011 academic year to its inaugural class of student pioneers. The founding Head of School was Rabbi Edward Harwitz. The final Head of School prior to the merger was Rabbi Elisha Paul.

The school originally was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut at Congregation B'nai Israel.[2] It subsequently moved to Woodbridge before moving again to the Cytec Building in Stamford, Connecticut.[3] After merging with Bi-Cultural Day School, the school remained at its site in Stamford before moving onto the Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy campus in the fall of 2019.

Academic Program

JHSC offered a college-preparatory dual curriculum of general studies and Judaic studies as well as on-campus and online electives; many of these offerings continue at the new school. Students have taken electives such as Theater, Advanced Judaic Studies, Engineering, Jazz-Rock Ensemble, Computer Design, and a variety of art courses.

Additionally, students have taken part (and continue to take part) in a variety of co-curricular activities, including Model United Nations, yearbook, student council, art and literary magazine, chess club, debate team, and community service.

Athletics

JHSC was an affiliate of the Connecticut Constitutional Conference and competed with other high schools in the region. After the merger, the school became a probationary member of the FairChester Athletic Association.

At various times, JHSC offered the following sports: soccer, basketball, track and field, tennis, golf, swimming, and weights and conditioning.
