John J. Bracken

John J. Bracken (February 11, 1908 – January 23, 1994) was an American politician who served as the Attorney General of Connecticut from 1955 to 1959.[1][2]

Term: 1955-1959 John J. Bracken was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1908. He attended St. Peter's Parochial School, the Hartford Public High School, and graduated from Georgetown University Law School.

Bracken, a Republican, was admitted to the Connecticut State Bar in 1932 and practiced law in Hartford except for three years from 1942 to 1945 when he was engaged in wartime activities as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Active in civic affairs and the Republican Party all his adult life, he held a number of municipal offices. He was prosecuting attorney of the Hartford Police Court in 1941-1942, and again in 1946-1947. He served as judge of the Hartford City and Police Court from 1947 to 1949 and again from 1953 until his resignation in July, 1954 upon being nominated for the office of the Attorney General. In 1940 he served as legal adviser for the Charter Revision Commission of Hartford and he was assistant clerk of the Senate during the 1953 Session of the General Assembly. Bracken also served as chairman of Hartford Local Draft Board No. 3.. He died on January 23, 1994, in Hartford, Connecticut at age 85.[3]
