Joroinen

Joroinen (Swedish: Jorois) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the North Savo[2] region. The municipality has a population of 4,743 (31 July 2020)[4] and covers an area of 711.76 square kilometres (274.81 sq mi) of which 136.3 km2 (52.6 sq mi) is water.[3] The population density is 8.24 inhabitants per square kilometre (21.3/sq mi).

Neighbouring municipalities are Juva, Leppävirta, Pieksämäki, Rantasalmi and Varkaus. Varkaus, a town in the North Savo region, is located 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Joroinen, and Varkaus Airport is located in Joroinen.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Joroinen has the biggest disc golf course in Finland with 36 holes.[8][9]

Joroinen is often called "Paris of the Savonia" because in the 1700s the people of the manor spoke mainly French.[1]
