Jungjang

Jungjang is the South Korean equivalent of a lieutenant general. It outranks the sojang, equivalent to a major general. The rank is also held by Korean vice admirals and uses three stars as its badge of rank, much like the United States version.

In North Korea, the same name is romanized as chungjang. Although still translatable as "lieutenant general", a North Korean chungjang is only the equivalent of a two-star general, since North Korea does not maintain a rank of brigadier general. The North Korean equivalent of a three-star general is sangjang, translated as "colonel general".
