KBIF began serving the Central San Joaquin Valley in 1947 and by the early 1980s was broadcasting 24 hours a day. The Big Band format in the 1950s changed to a Christian format in the 1960s, which continues today. KBIF added foreign language programming, including Spanish, Punjabi and Japanese, in the mid-1980s and later added Hmong, Lao, Korean and Vietnamese.
