History

Pre-debut

Kaachi is the first European K-pop group who were formed in January 2020 through FrontRow Records. The original lineup consisted of members Nicole, Dani, Chunseo & KG, all of whom were former members of UJJN, a London dance troop. However, KG quietly departed from the group due to personal reasons sometime in January and was replaced by Miso. On 29 February 2020, Kaachi performed their debut song Your Turn prior to its release at Super Kpop Weekends in London. Miso left the group in March 2020 and was replaced by Coco.

2020-present: "Your Turn" and "Photo Magic"

On 11 April 2020, FrontRow Records announced that Kaachi's debut song would be named "Your Turn". The single was officially released on 15 April 2020. Also on that date, FrontRow Records published a video teaser of the debut song's music video. The music video was officially released on 29 April 2020 in YouTube. The release was met with heavy criticism due to similarities between other K-pop music videos and choreographies as well as poor vocals and dancing skills.

On 22 September 2020, FrontRow Records annonunced that Kaachi would release their second single.[5][6][7] On 4 November 2020, the single "Photo Magic" was released along with the music video.[8][9]

On 1 January 2021, Kaachi performed on the London's New Year's Day Parade.[10]

Controversies

Kaachi's debut was heavily criticised by the public due to three members not having Korean heritage, criticised for their skill levels due to a lack of training and alleged plagiarism towards other K-pop groups amongst numerous false rumours which were circulated.[11][12] The non-Korean members were also accused of being "Koreaboos" and "shortcutting" the Korean idol training process.[13] On 29 April 2020, Kaachi's Manager, Monica Lee, uploaded a video on YouTube, clarifying the rumors.[14]
