Kankar (TV series)
Kankar (Urdu: کنکر, lit. 'Pebble') is a 2013 Pakistani drama television serial aired on Hum TV from 31 May 2013 to 6 December 2013. It was directed by Aabis Raza and written by Umera Ahmad. The serial starred Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Baloch.[1][2]

Plot
It is a story of two best friends who are paternal cousins, Arzoo and Kiran. Arzoo is a rich girl who loves her rich maternal cousin Sikandar. On the other hand, Kiran's cousin Adnan likes Kiran but couldn't propose her due to his financial condition and his sister's marriage. Sikandar falls in love with Kiran on the occasion of Arzoo's brother's marriage and insist his mother to go and talk to Kiran's parents. This leads to the disputes between the families. Arzoo breaks her friendship with Kiran and envies her. Kiran and Sikandar are married but soon indulge in huge fights where Kiran is physically abused by Sikandar. She gets slapped really hard by Sikandar which leaves a really big mark on her face. Kiran is even scolded by her mother in law for her outspoken nature. Later these fights lead to Kiran's miscarriage as she is thrown on the floor by Sikandar. Sikandar apologises to Kiran but instead Kiran asks for the divorce. Everyone tries their best to convince Kiran but Kiran insist for divorce and is divorced by Sikandar. After their divorce, Sikandar's mother marries Sikandar to Arzoo. Arzoo seems very happy with Sikandar but is not happy because Sikandar being still in love with Kiran. Everyone around blames Kiran for her broken marriage and praises Arzoo for her luck. Adnan's sister finally gets married after her long-term engagement but lives with Adnan and his mother as her husband is in Kuwait. Adnan asks her mother to get him married to Kiran but she disapproves as she doesn't want a divorcee to marry her only son. Adnan convinces his mother and Kiran later for the marriage. Kiran and Adnan are married in a very simple way. Sikandar emerges out in anger which leads to huge arguments with Arzoo. Arzoo leaves the house and tells her mother everything. Sikandar's mother scolds his son for the embarrassment she faced in front of Arzoo's parents. Sikandar apologises to Arzoo and get her back. Kiran finds it difficult in Adnan's house because of his Sister's complaints and cries. Adnan and Kiran too have fights but soon sort out everything. Arzoo is soon blessed with a baby boy and sweetmeats are distributed in the family. Kiran too receives a box from Arzoo's mother because of which Adnan gets angry. Sikandar overhears Arzoo talking to her mother about Kiran's fights with Adnan. Sikandar gets happy. Arzoo asks him why is he so happy to which he replies now Kiran will realise my worth and the big mistake. He even tells her that this is not her concern. Arzoo reminds him that she is his wife now. Sikandar abuses Arzoo. Arzoo argues and Sikandar slaps her. Arzoo leaves again with her baby. Everyone in the family comes to know about Sikandar's attitude and praises Kiran for her right decision of leaving him. On the other hand, Adnan's sister is called by her husband and informed that her visa papers are ready as she can now finally go to her husband. Adnan's sister is happy. She becomes friendly with Kiran and talks to her nicely. Arzoo is very upset and visits Kiran. Arzoo tells her that her decision was correct. Kiran advises her to think a thousand times before taking any decision as she is not alone but has her baby with her. One day, Kiran, with her sister in law, are in the market & Kiran meets Sikandar. Sikandar tells her that he truly loves her and would even divorce Arzoo to get her back, Kiran slaps him hard and tells him " have you realised this pain now even women feels it" and warns him to never raise his hand on any women. Sikandar realizes his mistake and asks for forgiveness from Arzoo. Even Adnan's sister apologizes to Adnan and Kiran for her cruel behavior and leaves for Kuwait. At the end, Kiran is expecting a baby and both (Adnan and Kiran) are happy with it.

Broadcast and release
It aired on Zindagi (India), started from 13 April 2016. It was also released on the iflix app as a part of channel's contract with the app but later on, on terminating the contract in 2019, all the episodes were pulled off and thus had no digital availability to stream. In 2019, it was released on another app Starzplay. In April 2020, all the episodes of the show were released on Hum TV's official app. The show is currently airing on Hum Sitaray.
Reviews and Production
Kankar[3] was a well written drama[4] which got great reviews from the masses. It showed the plight of women of Pakistan, domestic violence and divorced women.[5]
Mahira Khan was the first choice for the role of Kiran but as she chooesd Shehr-e-Zaat Baloch was finalised for the role. The plot of the show had some extra tracks other than the novel but the overall theme was same. It was produced by MD Productions. The show was concluded in December 2013 and was replaced by Mohabat Subh Ka Sitara Hai.
